In May 2024, Mexico recorded more than 6 million customs operations at its borders, a significant increase of 3.1% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Mexican National Customs Agency (ANAM). This growth marks a golden opportunity for 3PL logistics companies, which can capitalize on the increase in customs activity to optimize their services and expand their market presence.

Customs with Greater Mobility

Customs offices in Nuevo Laredo, Tijuana and Baja California led in terms of mobility, accounting for 60% of border operations with a combined total of more than 3 million 780 thousand records. These critical entry and exit points are essential for logistics companies seeking to improve efficiency in the movement of goods.

– Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas: With 2 million 267 thousand 198 operations, this customs office represented 361 TP3T of the operations nationwide, consolidating itself as the most active in the country.

– Tijuana, Baja California: Registering 785,015 operations, Tijuana contributed 12.5% of the national total.

– Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua: With 728,147 operations, this customs office reached 11.6% participation.

Strategic Importance for 3PL Logistics

The high concentration of operations at these customs points underlines the importance of these points for 3PL logistics companies. By focusing on these hubs of activity, companies can:

  1. Optimize Routes and Delivery Times: Take advantage of infrastructure and volume of operations to reduce waiting times and improve punctuality in deliveries.
  2. Reduce Operating Costs: Increase operational efficiency and minimize costs associated with transportation and storage.
  3. Expand Services and Coverage: Offer more robust and diversified logistics solutions to a broader customer base.

Participation of Other Key Customs

In addition to the main customs offices, others also stood out for their volume of operations:

– Reynosa, Tamaulipas: 525,167 operations, 8.3% of national participation.

– Nogales, Sonora: 415,127 operations, 6.6% participation.

– Colombia, Nuevo León: 361,448 operations, reaching sixth place.

These figures reflect a general trend of increased customs activity, which benefits the entire supply and logistics chain in the region.

Boosting e-commerce

The growth in customs operations is also aligned with the rise of e-commerce, which continues to expand and demands efficient and fast logistics solutions. 3PL logistics companies can take advantage of this trend to offer specialized e-commerce services, facilitating the fast and safe movement of products across borders.

The increase in customs operations at Mexico's borders represents a significant opportunity for 3PL logistics companies. By focusing on the most mobile customs and taking advantage of the growth of e-commerce, these companies can improve their services, reduce costs and expand their market presence. Staying abreast of these developments and proactively adapting to market trends is crucial to capitalizing on these opportunities and strengthening the competitive position in the logistics industry.

This growth in customs activity not only underlines the importance of efficient logistics, but also highlights the crucial role of 3PL companies in facilitating and optimizing international trade in an increasingly dynamic and competitive environment.
